Council trainee and apprenticeship program - growing local futures
Earn while you learn! Work full time while completing a nationally recognised qualification.
We are looking for recent school leavers (HSC or Year 10 plus at least two years in workforce) or mature-aged individuals interested in kickstarting a career with Council through a traineeship or apprenticeship.
These are entry-level roles designed to provide on-the-job training and formal education to develop the skills necessary for a career in various areas of Council. The positions offer a blend of practical experience and study, allowing you to gain hands-on skills while completing a nationally recognised qualification.

Apprentice Civil Construction - Dunedoo
You will support the construction and maintenance of civil infrastructure such as roads and drainage systems, while undertaking hands-on training and formal study toward a Certificate III in Civil Construction. Under supervision, you will learn to operate tools and machinery safely, follow WHS protocols, and contribute to team-based project delivery.

Apprentice Parks and Gardens - Dunedoo and Coonabarabran
You will develop practical skills and theoretical knowledge in the maintenance and improvement of public parks, gardens, streetscapes, and urban environments, and support the daily operations of the Parks & Gardens team while completing a Certificate III in Parks and Gardens.

You will assist in the assessment and inspection of building and development works in accordance with statutory requirements, while undertaking formal training towards recognised building certification qualifications. Trainee Compliance Officer - Coonabarabran
Support the delivery of regulatory and compliance services within the local government area, contributing to community safety, environmental health, and public amenity. Learn and support the management and operations of Council’s public swimming facilities. You will be trained in pool operations, water quality monitoring, plant maintenance, safety compliance, customer service and lifeguarding, while completing a Certificate IV in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation.

We are looking for people who:
- Enjoy hands on learning while undertaking practical and, depending on the position, manual work
- Have physical strength and stamina, relevant to the position
- Are safety aware
- Communicate effectively and enjoy working as a member of a team

Selection Criteria include:
- Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent) or Year 10 plus at least two years in the workforce, with a strong interest in the selected field.
- Willingness to learn and commit to a structured apprenticeship/traineeship program.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
- Good physical fitness and stamina
- You must have a current NSW driver’s licence and, for outdoor roles, a White Card (General Construction Induction Certificate) or be willing to obtain prior to commencement.
