We’re seeking a highly skilled and proactive Personal Assistant to provide senior-level administrative and secretarial support to the Director. This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth and efficient management of the Director’s schedule, communications, and operations — all while handling complex and sensitive matters with discretion, professionalism, and absolute confidentiality.
You’ll be the gatekeeper and organiser behind the scenes: managing calendars, screening calls, preparing reports, coordinating meetings, and liaising with stakeholders at all levels — including Councillors, senior staff, government agencies, and community partners. You’ll also assist with preparing high-level briefings, correspondence, and research reports that support effective decision-making at the top level of Council.
To thrive in this role, you’ll need strong business administration experience, superior organisational and communication skills, and an ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. You’ll be a trusted ally to the Director — someone with initiative, emotional intelligence, and a genuine passion for public service excellence.
This is a term contract position, 35 hours per week, for a period of up to 12 months, under section 241 of the Workers Compensation Act 1987 (NSW).

This position is located in the beautiful town of Coonabarabran, known as the Astronomy Capital of Australia, which is midway between Melbourne and Brisbane and is known for its beautiful landscape and stunning night skies. The town has medical services, excellent schools, a variety of sporting and social clubs and a thriving tourism Industry. With the nearby Warrumbungle National Park, which is also Australia’s first Dark Sky Park, there is plenty to do and explore whether you’re looking for adventure or relaxation.
Selection criteria include:
- Extensive experience in an office administration role and Certificate IV in Business Administration or equivalent relevant qualification.
- Demonstrated high level of confidential probity.
- Excellent computer skills in word processing, database packages, browsers and email programs, preferably Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and fast, accurate typing.
- Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills, including experience in report writing and a strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated strong organisation, prioritisation and time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality customer service principles and practices.
- Friendly and welcoming personality with the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with a broad cross-section of individuals, stakeholders and organisations.
- Demonstrated commitment to work health and safety (WHS) in the workplace
- Class C NSW Drivers Licence.
Its a plus if you have Local Government experience, Diploma level qualification and excellent problem solving and project skills.
