Baradine/Binnaway Transfer Station Officer
Job No:
WASC575
Location:
Baradine/Binnaway
Department: Planning and Regulation
Reports to: Supervisor Waste & Recycling
Salary Range: $1,029 - $1,174 per 38 hr week + superannuation
Warrumbungle Shire Council is seeking a motivated and reliable individual to fill the position of Transfer Station Officer for the Baradine and Binnaway Transfer Stations. This vital community-facing role involves supervising the day-to-day operations of both waste facilities during designated opening hours, assisting customers with correct waste disposal, promoting recycling practices, and maintaining clean and safe sites. When not stationed at Baradine or Binnaway, you'll be supporting recycling operations at the Coonabarabran Material Handling Facility—an opportunity to be hands-on in environmental sustainability efforts.
As a Transfer Station Officer, you’ll be responsible for inspecting incoming waste loads, directing customers to appropriate disposal areas, and encouraging proper recycling habits. You’ll handle cash transactions and reconcile takings, operate plant and equipment safely, and maintain a tidy, hazard-free environment. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys practical outdoor work, interacting with the public, and takes pride in providing a well-managed, welcoming waste facility for the community.
In addition to site supervision, your duties at the Coonabarabran facility will include sorting recyclable materials, baling recyclables, assisting with the Container Deposit Scheme, and supporting general site operations. Your contribution will help keep our region clean, sustainable, and in line with best waste management practices. You’ll also play an important role in upholding the Council’s strong focus on safety and professionalism in all community interactions.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need a current Class C driver’s licence, solid communication skills, basic cash handling experience, and the ability to operate small machinery and tools. A Construction Induction (White Card) is essential, and knowledge of recycling or experience in waste services will be highly regarded.
If you’re looking for a stable and community-oriented role with set hours across Tuesday to Thursday and weekends, this could be the perfect fit.
