As our Trainee Financial Administration Officer, you’ll become a valued member of Council’s Finance team, supporting the delivery of high-quality financial services while building the foundational skills needed for a successful finance career. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience across accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and general financial administration—all while completing a nationally recognised Certificate III in Financial Administration.
In this role, you’ll work under the guidance of experienced finance professionals, gradually taking on more responsibility as your skills grow. Your days will include assisting with invoice processing, maintaining financial records, preparing reports, and providing friendly and professional support to both internal and external customers. You’ll also play a key role in administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, mail handling, reconciliations, and supplier follow-ups—all essential components of a well-functioning finance operation.
We’re looking for someone who is motivated, organised, and eager to learn. You’ll thrive here if you have strong attention to detail, basic computer skills, and the ability to follow processes with accuracy and integrity. Just as importantly, you’ll bring a positive attitude, a team-focused mindset, and a professional approach to customer service. To be eligible, you’ll need to meet traineeship requirements under Fresh Start funding, hold a minimum P-plate Class C driver’s licence, and demonstrate your commitment to completing the full term of the program.

This position is located in the beautiful town of Coonabarabran, known as the Astronomy Capital of Australia, which is midway between Melbourne and Brisbane and is known for its beautiful landscape and stunning night skies. The town has medical services, excellent schools, a variety of sporting and social clubs and a thriving tourism Industry. With the nearby Warrumbungle National Park, which is also Australia’s first Dark Sky Park, there is plenty to do and explore whether you’re looking for adventure or relaxation.
Selection criteria include:
- A genuine interest in pursuing a career in finance and eligible for a traineeship under the Fresh Start funding
- Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent) or Year 10 plus at least two years in the workforce
- Willingness to undertake a Certificate III Financial Administration
- Good attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
- Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with others
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Reliable, punctual and eager to learn
- Current Class C driver’s licence (P plates minimum)
- Demonstrated commitment to completing the full term of the traineeship
