The Development Services Administration Officer position will provide essential administrative support across three dynamic departments: Planning and Regulation, Tourism and Economic Development, and Warrumbungle Water. This is a diverse and rewarding role where you will assist with a wide range of administrative duties, from preparing reports and correspondence to supporting the needs of our community and colleagues.
In this role, your key responsibilities will include preparing and drafting essential documents such as agendas, minutes, reports, tenders, and purchase orders for the Directorate. You will provide valuable support to the Development Services staff by handling customer enquiries, managing correspondence, maintaining files, and assisting with research tasks. You'll also play a key part in the day-to-day operations of the department by assisting with the administration of the Planning Portal, booking building inspections, and helping with monthly reporting for Long Service Levies and Plan First Contributions. Your meticulous attention to detail will ensure all records are kept up to date and in compliance with current legislation.
We are looking for a candidate with a Certificate III in Business Administration (or equivalent) and strong experience in an administrative role. Your advanced word processing and data entry skills will help you thrive in this role, and your exceptional organizational abilities will ensure that tasks are completed efficiently and accurately. Ideally, you will bring a background in local government administration, as well as experience with digital record management systems (EDRMS) and the NSW Planning Portal. A class “C” driver’s license is required, and a commitment to health, safety, and compliance with Council procedures is essential.

This position is located in the beautiful town of Coonabarabran, known as the Astronomy Capital of Australia, which is midway between Melbourne and Brisbane and is known for its beautiful landscape and stunning night skies. The town has medical services, excellent schools, a variety of sporting and social clubs and a thriving tourism Industry. With the nearby Warrumbungle National Park, which is also Australia’s first Dark Sky Park, there is plenty to do and explore whether you’re looking for adventure or relaxation.
Selection criteria include:
- Certificate III in Business Administration or relevant field and/or extensive relevant experience
- Advanced word processing and data entry skills
- Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organisational skills, time management and be achievement orientated
- Experience in filing and knowledge of records management.
- Class “C” drivers licence
It is a plus if you have at least 2 years’ experience in an administration role (local government experience is highly regarded), experience in digital record management systems (EDRMS) and basic knowledge and experience in the NSW Planning Portal .
