Mechanic

Job No: WASC670
Location: Coolah

Department: Infrastructure Services

Reports to: Supervisor Workshops

Salary Range: $74,512 - $86,595 per annum + superannuation

Are you a skilled and passionate mechanic with a drive to ensure vehicles and equipment are in top working condition? Do you want to play an integral role in keeping our community moving, with reliable Council vehicles and equipment?

We’re looking for a qualified mechanic to join our team — someone who knows their way around engines, has a good understanding of plant and equipment, and enjoys a bit of variety in their day.

You’ll be working on everything from chainsaws and whipper-snippers to utes, tractors, graders, garbage trucks and beyond — there’s plenty of variety in the fleet you’ll look after. Some days you’ll be in the workshop, other days you’ll be out on the road helping with breakdowns or on-site servicing. Every day you will help to keep things ticking over safely and smoothly.

You will provide essential repairs, maintenance, and servicing for a wide range of Council vehicles, plant and equipment, helping ensure our fleet operates safely, efficiently and cost-effectively. You’ll schedule and carry out regular servicing, maintain accurate service records, and provide on-the-road support when needed. Your technical expertise will be important in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic issues, understanding equipment capabilities and requirements, and liaising with external contractors and suppliers when required.

Alongside your mechanical skills, you’ll need good time management and organisational skills to prioritise jobs, manage competing workloads and ensure servicing and repairs are completed within required timeframes. Basic computer skills are also essential, including the ability to use emails and enter and update information in electronic work orders, job orders and timesheets. You’ll be comfortable keeping records up to date and using these systems to support the smooth day-to-day operation of the workshop and Council fleet.

You’ll be joining a diverse and dynamic team spread across two workshops, bringing together a mix of skills, experience and years of knowledge. We’re a hardworking, practical and innovative crew who take pride in what we do. We work together, share knowledge and do what it takes to get the job done — and get it done right.
